It is a way to make your criteria and standards clear to both you and your students.
Good scoring rubrics: Step 3: List the traits you'll assess when evaluating the project--in other words, ask: "What counts in my assessment of this work?
" Use nouns or noun phrases to name traits, and avoid evaluative language. Each trait should represent a key teachable attribute of the overall skill you're assessing.
Step 5: For each trait write statements that describe work at each level of mastery.
The following standards describe effective research papers.
Rubrics are scales in which the criteria used for grading or assessment are clearly spelled out along a continuum.Sometimes ties together information from all sources. Author's writing does not demonstrate an understanding of the relationship among material obtained from all sources. Paper does not flow and appears to be created from disparate issues. Writing does not demonstrate understanding any relationships More than 5 current sources, of which at least 3 are peer-review journal articles or scholarly books.Sources include both general background sources and specialized sources.Undergraduate research is becoming more important in higher education as evidence is accumulating that clear, inquiry-based learning, scholarship, and creative accomplishments can and do foster effective, high levels of student learning.This curricular innovation includes identifying a concrete investigative problem, carrying out the project, and sharing findings with peers.The final paper proposal is due in class by Wednesday (July 1) of the second week [or earlier].On that day, students will give brief presentations (10 min.) of their proposal.If, for example, you have seven traits and five gradations, you'll have 35 descriptive statements in your rubric.Attempt to strike a balance between over-generalizations and task-specificity.The paper contains an original analysis and combination of information.All references are cited correctly in text and in a References Cited section. B - The thesis or problem posed in the paper is clearly stated.
