When students don’t get enough sleep, they are tired throughout the day.When they are not fully awake and functional, their ability to process information and learn to their best ability is compromised.There are no parents to delegate sleeping schedules and students choose when and how long they go to sleep, whether they understand the importance of sleep or not.
Similarly, student’s competitiveness adds to their lack of sleep.
To get those high grades and GPAs, students spend more time studying and doing work than sleeping.
Sleep Deprivation is a growing problem in our society today, especially for students.
Students are not getting enough sleep to achieve in school.
Lack of sleep can also weaken the immune system and make one more prone to illnesses.
In an active college campus, students are constantly putting themselves at risk for diseases.
However, students continue to do this because they don’t realize the long-term consequences.
Sleep deprivation is very detrimental to students’ health.
A study done in 2006 found that, “insufficient sleep impairs behavioral, physiological, and neurocognitive processes vital for learning capacity and academic performance”.
So while students are staying up an extra few hours to study, they are actually hurting their future academic performance.
